Friends of Kensington Market “My Friends’ Tab”

The My Friends' Tab program by Friends of Kensington Market in Toronto helps people in need afford basic necessities by allowing them to ask for help with making purchases. The program is designed for those struggling with finances, and for those who only have access to cash but are unable to shop at stores with a cashless payment system. Participating businesses, such as Carlos House of Spice, Caribbean Corner, and I Deal Coffee, offer assistance up to a certain amount (e.g. $10 or $20) and customers can say "put it on my Friends' Tab" when making a purchase. The program also allows people to donate to help their neighbours by adding it to their purchase or donating through the Friends of Kensington Market website.
