Eden Place Kids Garden

Eden Place kids Garden is a community garden and farming program for children in the Alexandra Park Co-op. The program takes place on Sundays during the spring and summer months and provides a space for kids ages 1 and up to gather, listen to music, and work together on a common goal. The children are encouraged to take an active role in planning their activities and deciding what to do each week, with the focus being on tending to the garden and planning for the harvest.

The program is an important source of free and accessible activities for the kids in the community. The program aims to continue at a high level of participation in 2023 and has the potential to expand with help from advocates and supporters. There is also an opportunity to beautify a large, empty green space in the co-op, and the kids are eager to take on this challenge.

Our goal is to create an edible garden that not only produces healthy food for those in need, but also promotes healthy eating habits, provides therapeutic healing, and contributes to neighbourhood revitalization. The garden will be designed to be a natural habitat for pollinators and will provide educational opportunities for youth to engage with nature.

We believe that access to healthy, fresh food is a fundamental right for everyone, and our garden will work towards bridging that gap for those in need. By growing and harvesting food on-site, we will provide a source of healthy food for the local community and community groups. By engaging youth in the garden and green space, we aim to foster a lifelong love of nature and inspire the next generation to make positive changes in their communities.
